The second profile in our She Means Business feature is Lana Manganiello, founder and CEO of Practice Growth Partner, a legal marketing strategy, business development, and fractional CMO consultancy that advises lawyers and law firms on profitable, client-centered growth.
Here is her entrepreneurship story.
Identifying a gap in the marketplace.
I started Practice Growth Partner because I saw a significant gap between the kind of business development support lawyers were receiving and what they actually needed to build successful, sustainable practices.
Keyword: NEED.
You passed the bar. Now you need some clients.
Lawyers are highly trained in the practice of law, but they are often expected to figure out business development, relationship building, visibility and career strategy largely on their own.
After years of working with law firms and individual attorneys, I knew there was an opportunity to provide a more integrated approach that combines strategy, coaching and implementation.
I wanted to work closely with lawyers to identify where they can be most valuable, build meaningful professional relationships, become recognized for the work they want to do, and create practices and careers that are both financially successful and personally fulfilling.
I was also interested in building my own business around the ideas I believe will shape the future of the legal profession: more thoughtful use of technology and process, stronger relationships, greater inclusion, and growth strategies that create value for both lawyers and their clients.
Staying focused when you’re always identifying new options.
One of my biggest challenges has been staying focused. I am naturally inclined to see opportunities and launch new initiatives, and there is always another idea I am excited to pursue. The harder and more valuable work is giving the strongest ideas enough time and attention to become truly successful.
As the business has grown, I have become much more intentional about creating systems and processes around the work that is effective so it can continue moving forward while I experiment with new offerings and ideas.
Building that operational discipline has been an important part of becoming a better business owner.
Fostering relationships. Building trust.
I am especially proud of the trust I have built with my clients and the breadth of work Practice Growth Partner has been able to do in a relatively short period of time. I work with individual lawyers, boutique through AmLaw100 firms, and growing practices on everything from business development and career strategy to visibility, thought leadership, firm growth and the systems that support all of it.
It is particularly meaningful to see clients become more confident and intentional about the careers and practices they are building.
Looking to the future of the legal profession.
I am also proud that my work has given me a platform to contribute to larger conversations about the future of the legal profession through writing, speaking and industry leadership.
I have been able to build a business that reflects what matters to me: strong relationships, meaningful work, innovation, inclusion and using professional success to create a positive impact.
